My HOME

 

I live in a turn-of-the-century, mid-terrace town house.  The rooms are spread over three floors:

  • Ground floor: entrance hall, office/teaching room, lounge, kitchen
  • First floor: large bathroom (bath with shower in it), my bedroom
  • Second floor: 2 large student bedrooms

The house is on a fairly busy road but all the windows have double glazing and so the noise is minimal.  The quiet back of the house gets the sun in the morning, and in the late afternoon/evening the sun moves round to shine into the front of the house.

The garden is long and narrow, dating back from the rope-making days.  There is a small patio, a lawn with flower beds and then an area at the end which is in the process of being transformed into a vegetable patch.  In the summer, the garden gets the sun most of the day.

Since there is only one bathroom, the student will have to share it with me but they will have their own individual set of drawers in the bathroom at their disposal.

Each student bedroom contains:

  • Double bed

  • Desk with desk light
  • A free-standing floor lamp
  • A shelving unit
  • TV with Sky/Netflix
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Curtains

The house is a 5-10 minute walk into the centre of Bridport, and 1.5 miles from the sea.

The bus station is a 5-10 minute walk from my house.  It is possible to get the bus to Exeter.

The nearest train stations are Crewkerne, Dorchester South & West, Axminster – all about a 25-minute car journey away (£30 taxi ride).  There is a rather slow bus which goes to Dorchester but I am happy to provide lifts to the train stations (I have a car).   There are also a number of local taxi firms but no Uber.

The nearest airports are Exeter (1 hour), Southampton (1.5 hours), Bristol (2 hours), London Heathrow (3 hours).

All within a 10-min walk are: a doctor’s surgery, a dentist’s, a pharmacy, a supermarket, a post office, a tourist information centre, an arts centre, a cinema, cafés, pubs & restaurants.

There is a leisure centre with a swimming pool a 20-min walk away.

The nearest beach is a 45-min walk away.
